Dr Craig Williams
University of South Australia
Craig’s research concerns public health, specifically relating to vector-borne disease. The overall aim of his work is to ‘improve the health of people and places’.
Chief amongst his research is the development of predictive models for mosquito nuisance and arbovirus epidemics (e.g. Ross River virus) in South Australia, in a software package called “RR Forecaster”. The outcome will be an important public health tool that should ultimately reduce the incidence of mosquito-borne disease in this state.
He is also involved with an international research project which aims to reduce the lifespan of dengue vector mosquitoes by introducing symbiotic bacteria into them.
