
National Science Week 2009
National Science Week runs from 15 - 23 August across the country celebrating the contribution of Australian scientists to the world, encouraging interest in scientific pursuits and inspiring people to become fascinated by the world in which we live.
Tall Poppies have been keen to be involved in this Australia-wide promotion of scientific innovation in our nation.
There are numerous important events in which Tall Poppies from all areas of science are participating as part of our campaign.
South Australia
The South Australian Young Tall Poppy Science Awards are being held on Tuesday the 18th of August when a new crop of Tall Poppies will be announced at a breakfast held at the Observatory Function Centre. Click here to book your ticket online.
The SA Young Tall Poppy Scientist of the Year will be named at the South Australian Science Excellence Awards Thursday 20 August. For more information please contact the SA Tall Poppy Campaign Manager.
Tall Poppies are taking part in talks and workshops being held at Mawson Lakes as part of Science at the Lakes during Science Week.
New South Wales
The NSW Tall Poppy Campaign is running a series of video conferences and a large seminar entitled "Climate Change: Looking Forward, Reflecting Back" in conjunction with the NSW Department of Education and Training and Macquarie University.
Video conferences will run throughout Science Week across the Connected Classrooms network.
Scientists taking part in the series include Professor Tim Flannery and Dr Andrew Smith as well as Tall Poppies Dr Ben McNeil, Dr Leigh Sheppard, Dr Charles Warren and Dr Craig O'Neill.
